Importing an ADIF File

Menu/File/Import

When this window opens, select an ADIF file using the first two file navigation dialogs, clicking on an ADIF file in the second file dialog will start the file checking action.
The default folder is "..\Winlog32\OUTPUT", it is recommended that this folder location is used for all importing and exporting of files.
Checking File Integrity - counting the number of QSO records in the file and also checking the validity of the file, this can take some time depending on the size of the file and number of QSO records it contains.
If the file is not in an ADIF format or is corrupt, it will not be possible to import and this will be reported when the checking process is complete.

If the File checks-out OK, the 'IMPORT' button will be enabled.
The middle display shows the ADIF tags present in the ADIF file, some tags may not be used.
The right hand display will show the ADIF header if one is present, the header may contain details about the file and it's contents.

The QSO records will be imported into the current log in use.
Care should be taken to ensure that the file is not imported more than once and introduce duplicates, as these are difficult to erradicate.

Before importing the file, it is worth considering some of the options available.

Option: "Check Log for Duplicates"
Normally disable this option if importing into an empty log, however if duplicates are expected in the incoming ADIF file, enabling this option could be useful to remove them.
Enable this option only where necessary as importing the file will take a great deal longer, this is especially so with large files.
This action compares ADIF QSO data with that already in the Log and alerts if duplicates are found, the comparison data is: Callsign, Date, STime, Band, if these are matching a duplicate is flagged.
If more than one duplicate QSO is found during the import, an option is presented to ignore further duplicate warning messages and discard any duplicates found, use this option carefully.
In some instances the duplicate checking process may find errors in the incoming ADIF data, and this will also be alerted, e.g., missing Band or frequency, if the 'ignore' option has been selected above, these QSO will also be discarded.

Option: "Add Comment to User Field".
This option allows a comment to be inserted into the Log 'User' field during the import procedure, the comment will be added to ALL QSO records imported.
The 'User' field does not have any special function, but can be used for whatever purpose needed
N.B. The 'User' field data length is 30 characters maximum.

Option: "Add Power to PWR Field".
This option allows a value to be inserted into the Log 'PWR'(Power) field, the value will be added to all QSO records imported.
Could be used if the ADIF does not contain a 'Power' - <TX_PWR> value, if any values for the ADIF <TX_PWR> tag exist - they will have precedence over the 'option'.
N.B. The 'PWR' field data length is 4 characters maximum.

Option: "Convert IARU Mode to Normal J3E=SSB"
N.B. This option is can only be enabled if the file was originally exported by Winlog32.
UK licence required Modes to be logged with the IARU mode designators, this option gives the possibility of changing these modes back to normal during the import routine0.
Thus "A1A" becomes "CW, "J3E" becomes "SSB", F3E becomes "FM", etc., some ambiguties exists so this is only reliable on regular modes, and some data modes may not be interpreted correctly.

Option: "Convert Normal to IARU Mode SSB=J3E"
Reverse action of the previous option.
Deprecated v7.3.28

Option: "Exclude Contest Serial Numbers from Log"
This option may be useful if importing from a Contest log program and you do not wish to retain the contest serial numbers.

Option: "Include Grid for HF bands"
If this option is enabled, the grid is added to both HF and VHF QSO, BUT ONLY if it is present in the ADIF import file, otherwise the Grid is imported ONLY for VHF QSO (again, only if the Grid is present in ADIF file).

Option: "Add DXCC entity code when zero or missing"
If the import file does not contain the DXCC entity (Country) code, this option will add it to the log during the import process.
This function only adds the code if the tag is missing from the file or the tag has a zero value, it does not overwrite existing values if the file contains them.

N.B. Winlog32 will adhere to ADIF standards when importing from other sources.
If the ADIF file was previously exported from Winlog32, then the Winlog32 field contents will be respected, e.g. Remarks, Modes etc.
